If you want to visit the Bangkok night market you’ve come to the right place. Or maybe we should say night markets – because there really are several ones.
The Patpong night market is the most famous one among tourists – it’s been around for many years and conveniently located near the BTS station Sala Daeng and the MRT station Silom.
However, the biggest – and honestly, our favorite one too – is the Talad Rot Fai market.
In the past the most popular night market used to be talad suan lum (Lumphini night market), but that market doesn’t exist anymore.
One of the reasons why there are so many night markets in Bangkok is that days are hot (very very hot) in Thailand, and walking around in a crowded place under the merciless sun can be, well, exhausting. Try the famous Chatuchak weekend market if you want to have that experience. (And by the way – we do love JJ market, as Chatuchak is also often referred too – but we don’t love the heat!)
Nights on the other hand are… cooooool. So you can stroll around without sweating a hole into your shirt.
And there’s something inherently awesome about night markets – they’re not really that common in many other countries, so it has a bit of an adventurous feeling to it.
And night markets are not just about the shopping – they are just as much, if not more, about the socializing. Everybody has done their work, and night markets are a popular spot for people to meet and hang out, particular young people.
You’ll often find lot of creative stuff on a Bangkok night market, and they are also popular with artists and independent designers.
